Luca Cisternino

Bookbinder, he studied Design and Visual Communication, graduating in Industrial Design at the ISA of Monza.
After some years spent at the Faculty of Architecture in Milan he meets an old artisan from Monza with whom he learns the first binding techniques and, subsequently, he deepens the tradition of the Japanese bookbinding (Watoji). In 2014 he was invited by the MAO – Museo d’Arte Orientale of Turin to hold a theoretical and practical seminar on the Japanese bookbinding. Since 2015 he teaches Watoji at the Japanese Cultural Center in Milan and organizes workshops and courses in other spaces. Since 2016 he has been collaborating with the Department of Linguistic Mediation and Intercultural Studies with a project on literary translation and independent publishing. He studied western bookbinding and collaborated with artists, writers and photographers in the creation of small limited editions.
